Suaimhneas
About 40,000 individuals in Ireland have Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia with an increase in these numbers expected. These numbers represent huge numbers of families living in Ireland with loved ones who require special care.
Suaimhneas is a service dedicated to Alzheimers and Dementia Care. In Suaimhneas, we endeavour to provide specialist care to include activities for residents with dementia related conditions. Activities include the stimulation of memory and communication through reminiscence, sensory experiences, talking and games.
Our staff are trained to maintain a safe environment, manage changing behaviours, create social interaction and supervise daily activities whilst maintaining a routine. Our care workers can provide encouragement and assistance and restore the simple pleasures such as a walk, or spending time in our secure gardens. Our approach can help family members cope with the challenges of dementia.
Suaimhneas has also introduced the Sonas Activating Potential for Communication (aPc) programme which is an innovative sensory programme developed to improve communication for people with dementia related conditions. Our care staff have completed training courses in this area which has equipped them with the skills required to carry out group workshops that aim to stimulate residents’ senses.
